Sew IT

Its finally here

You  should have bought your sewing supplies by now which means you are all geared up to sew.

This button is the official launch for Sew IT (thanks to my supportive husband for creating it for me) .

If you are participant and have a blog grab the button and have it up on you sidebar so your visitors know you are getting crafty lol and i would really appreciate it if you link back to me 🙂

Now lets get down to business

Tutorial 1

I have chosen for our first sewing project a basic sqaure pillow because they are great as you can spice up a room with different colored pillows and they are easy to make.

The  tutorial is from About.com there are 2 versions the text version and a step by step with pictures which i thought is great for beginners.

This tutorial allows you to create pillow covers depending on the size of your pillow. So find a square pillow and with your tape meausure the width of it in inches to find which instructions to follow.

Other than that I think its a straight forward tutorial and you shouldnt have any problems however, if you do please leave me a comment on this post so everyone can benefit 🙂

Note to Participants:

Once you’ve completed the tutorial blog about it on your blog and send me the link. I will feature all creations on feautre it wednesday (which is when we show off our creations) i will link up to your blog (and have all the participants creations in one place)

Anyone can join in the fun all you need is your creativity and remember take it a stitch at a time

Looking forward to seeing your creations Happy Sewing 🙂

Sew It!

Sorry for the lack of update but Hadeel is on vacation and well let say goodbye to my peaceful mornings! 😉

Now to the topic at hand, you are probably wondering what my title is all about.  Well I love tutorials and have decided to dedicate every wednesday of the week  to share a tutorial and encourage each other to sew.

I have decided to start Sew It

Is this your idea?

No, i have seen many crafty/sewing blogs who have incorporated this into thier blogs the some calls it Tutorial Tuesday. They simply share a tutorial that they found/created and sewed.

Why did you choose Wednesday?

Well its the end of the week (in Oman that is) and i thought its a good day so you have the weekend to prepare and sew.

How is Sew IT different?

Its different in the sense that we will do this together kind of a sew a long. I will post a tutorial on the first wednesday of the month and we have 1 week to sew it and the 2nd wednesday we share our creations I hope to set up a flickr account so we can share pics of our creations. The 3rd Wednesday i post another tutorial and the 4th Wednesday we share, you get my point.

What will the tutorials be on?

I will choose a tutorial on how to make various things (a bag, something for the home, clothes for kids etc) and they will be taken from the wonderful tutorials that are available online.

What do you aim to achieve through this?

I hope to encourage people to try thier hand at sewing and hopefully build a sewing community.

I understand that not many people might be intersted in this and thats fine, i will start sewing these projects with the hope that i will inspire some of you to sew.

I am really excited about this and really hope that some of you will try your hand at this. If you have any questions please dont hesitate to contact me either by leaving me a comment or via email 🙂

Stay tuned for the first tutorial of Sew It next Wednesday the 3rd of June 2009

Busy being Mom

Just a quick post to let you know that my girls are not well. Hadeel has a very high fever and a terrible cough. Baby D has a runny nose so i will be busy taking care of them.

Still no housemaid, to help so this doesnt leave me much time for sewing.

However, i will try to get some sewing done and hopefully get the 2nd custom order finished before the end of the week.

Oh before i forget I have added some tutorials and pics to my tutorial page i have lots more saved into my favorites and i always keep adding more lol. Yeah i confess i am a tutorial addict, i just cant get enough.

Till my next post keep well and safe

Spring top week which is hosted by Rae.

It starts tomorrow and ends on Friday the 1st of May.  You can read my past posts here. This is what my button —-> on the right is all about.

And guess what?

I have not started sewing my top yet yeah well i blame the charity fair for that lol Anyway i plan on doing so today and this is my first top i plan on making only 1 this year but hopefully by next year i plan on making more.

On Friday Rae blogged about a tutorial which was posted on Sew Mama Sew.

I simply loved the top so i might as well use  her tutorial to make mine. Yes its sleeveless which is great for our hot weather.

I have chosen this fabric

I fell in love with the colors and pattern of this kitenge fabric. Now for thoes of you who are wondering what is kitenge i got this from Wikipedia

Kitenge or chitenge is an African garment similar to sarong, often worn by women wrapped around the chest or waist, over the head as a headscarf, or as a baby sling. They are also sometimes worn by men around the waist in hot weather. Kitenges (plural vitenge in Swahili; zitenge in Tonga) serve as an inexpensive, informal piece of clothing that, often decorated with a huge variety of colors, patterns.

I plan on starting this tonight once the girls are in bed so wish me luck 🙂

What is Mamati upto?

hmm good question, i am sure you are all wondering what she is doing these days…

Well you might ask what does she do with her time ??

Has she finished sewing the organisers? ummmm no (she is working on it)

Is she ready for the fair?  not yet, but she has until the 24th give her a break!!

well with the cooking, cleaning, looking after the kids and spending some time with hubby sewing does not get much Mamati time.

So much so that she informed hubby that she was not going to cook on Friday (day before yesterday that is) and managed to sew approx 10 organisers *YAY*

The charity is a mere 11 days away so she better get cracking.  She is actually very excited about the fair and is really looking forward to meeting people and helping women arrange thier bags lol

Speaking of bags here is a tutorial on how to make a plain tote bag  (pictured below) from Super Eggplant .

In case you are wondering why this post is in the 3rd person, thats because i thought it would be fun to do for a change.

I finally faced my fear and attempted to sew in a zipper. I actually made a lined zipper pouch, i am so happy. It did not come out perfect (my thumb) is covering my mistake – i didnt sew close enough to the end of the zipper) but i am really happy with it.  (Hey, is not bad for a first time)

I made it using this tutorial from Skip to my Lou, her instructions were so easy to follow i just had to try.

Here is the inside

I am defintely going to be making more of these pouches, practice makes perfect!!
