In May i decided to renovate my niece’s room who lives with us. I will refer to her as R. Ever since we moved into the house which was this time last year, i havent really decorated it. I like to take it nice and slow so its one room at a time.

So this is R’s room before

Her favorite colour is blue and i wanted to add another colour so i decided on chocolate brown. It took me 3 sample of brown until i found the right one!

The room is still under working progess i plan on having a dest in that empty space, a carpet, a mirror, some paintings and pictures on the walls.

Yup, i painted that room too. It took me two days to complete I dont think i will be painting again. Although i enjoy it, is just such hard work and with the kids around its even harder, cause they always want to “help”. The main thing is that R loves her room so mission accomplished.

The next room i plan to attack after my sewing room is the girls room.

I remember one reader asked for me to give explain how i painted the room and i plan on writing a post on that very soon (just wanted to let her know that i havent forgotten) subscribe so you dont miss it :)

Just a reminder that i have moved to my new website Sew Chic & Unique and i will be posting here until the 15th July 09.

Arghh am i the only who who wishes we could have more hours in a day? because 24 hours is not enough for me.

I have so many things going on, so many projects waiting to be started and others waiting to be finished. I was talking to my husband about this and he is right that i take on lots of projects, trying to be super woman. What can i do? i love keeping my self busy!

In addition to the above  i am currently renovating my niece’s room. I know, I know, but its high time i did her room and she is going to be travelling soon and there is no way i am cleaning out a teenager’s room on my own!

So as i was saying she loves the colour blue and instead of it ending up looking like mine which blue and red as you know, i am having the opposites wall in dark chocolate brown mmm. I started painting and finished the brown walls just the blue walls left.

We bought a day bed and it will be delivered tomorrow, so i better get busy and finish painting.

I have 4 sewing projects that i need to work on

  • Another version of a organiser with velcro
  • Business card holders
  • A tote bag for me
  • A buttercup bag again for me :)

Another thing that is keeping me busy is that i am currently working with a designer on my web page for my company Sew Chic & Unique. So there will be big changes soon and i am so excited and will keep you all posted on the progress.

It has been a while since i last blogged about my craftroom.

I got the inspiration for my craft room from here . I painted the room you can find my posts about it here and here .

The room is not quite finished yet but thought its about time blogged about it. I still have to hang some things up on the wall, make my curtains from IKEA fabric i got and put up some more lights.

Here are pictures of one side of the room i will feature the rest in another update ;)

This was taken after we had set up the desk and cupboard

This is how it is currely set up I changed the location of the laptop as i felt that the sewing machine was better placed on the right as it was slightly more spacious. (excuse the mess)

Sew many things

You wont believe this but i still have more organizers to sew. It seems that a  lot of women in Oman need thier bags organized lol. I actually enjoy it but i dont get to sew anything else. I did manage to hem some curtains but there isnt much sewing involved.

I have so many things i would like to sew. I have the curtains for my craft room to make with the fabric i bought on my last trip to IKEA. I would like to try sewing a handbag or two ;) i love handbags!

I cant wait to make my own clothes, and clothes for my daughters.

The one thing i find really irritating is that i cant find what i want here. Dubai might have what i am looking for, but what do i have to go all the way there?  People here are so used to having things done for them, they are too lazy to put a little effort and creativity into thier lives.

Times such as this i wish i was back in Perth, or somewhere in Europe. Just so i can get what i want when i want..i have so many ideas but without the right material i cant do much. (sorry if this post is turing out to be a rant, but i just cant help feeling this way)

I have been painting the craftroom since yesterday the first coat is on one more coat to be applied and i am done!

craftroom2

Normally we would pay someone to paint, but i was inspired by my crafty mamas and as its craft room  i thought i might as well take this opportunity to get crafty, so i decided to do it myself. I am a perfectionist and didnt want to do a lousy job so i searched the net and found useful sites on how to paint.

For thosewho liked the paint colour its a really nice light blue by Jotun paint ( Fenomastic Silk Emulsion) in Spa Care.

Work in Progress

I have officially started working on my craft room, which i hope will end up looking like Megan’s craft room.

So i first made a list of the furniture which i plan to get from IKEA Dubai, as we dont have one in Oman  i am hoping that my darling husband is going to take me on the 4 hr drive there this weekend.  Yesterday i went to choose BLUE paint, finding the correct colour was not easy, but i think i have found one love it.

Here is proof that work has indeed begun

I just need to finish masking the rest of the room (i ran out) , finish cutting off (painting around the room just like in the pic above) unscrew the electrical plugs so i can start the real painting using a roller. I plan on finishing the room before the end of the week. I hope to start assembling the furniture next week, which reminds me while in IKEA i would also like to buy some fabric to make curtains.

I’m off to the paint shop now, will post more pics as work progresses

For months now i have found tons of wonderful blogs about crafting, sewing, decorating. However, i noticed that most of the ladies behind these blogs are either from Europe or America. I mean where are the arabs? Is it because arab women just dont have time? because i know they are interested, i mean they are into fashion, interior decorating and usually if not always they look for most expensive thing in a shop :)

Please dont get me wrong I have nothing against the lovely ladies who blog, on the contrary i look up to them for being so creative, so much so that they have inspired me to follow thier path. I just wish I would see more arab women be more creative.

Below is a list of why i think arab ladies are not into DIY stuff in general:

  • Why should i do it? when i can hire someone?
  • I want to do it but dont know how!
  • I just dont have the time, these things are time consuming
  • These kind of crafts need a creative mind, i am not creative!
  • The things i need are not available where i come from
  • I do craft but i dont like to share my ideas/designs with everyone, i just do it for my family/business

To all the ladies who give these excuses there is just one thing i have to say, you are missing out!

Whilst reading the blogs such as crafty mamas they simply love what they do. Sewing, scarpbooking, interior decorating, whatever it is they do not only do they do it well but they ENJOY it. They even show us how to do it and are always willing to help you, all you have to do is ASK!

I have always loved sewing and interior decorating but honestly when i was single was not really into it, i remember my mum even tried to teach me once but i was more intrested in going on line and catching up with my friends ( i could honestly kick my self for letting that chance go). When i got married didnt have the time with looking after the house, kids and a full time job. But now that i am at home i feel that i have some free time on my hands.

I for one have always thought that i was not creative, but you really dont have to be, of course if you are its an added factor but the thought of creating something to use at home, or for the girls just gets my blood flowing.

I would love to be able make gifts, instead of buying of them, sew my girls dresses, matching pillows for the sitting room with the kind of material/colour I WANT! I mean the list is endless i have saved so many projects to do (after i start my course next month, of course).  Anyhow my point of this post was to highlight to women that you can do whatever you want, all you have to do it try and believe in yourself.
