You wont believe this but i still have more organizers to sew. It seems that a lot of women in Oman need thier bags organized lol. I actually enjoy it but i dont get to sew anything else. I did manage to hem some curtains but there isnt much sewing involved.
I have so many things i would like to sew. I have the curtains for my craft room to make with the fabric i bought on my last trip to IKEA. I would like to try sewing a handbag or two
i love handbags!
I cant wait to make my own clothes, and clothes for my daughters.
The one thing i find really irritating is that i cant find what i want here. Dubai might have what i am looking for, but what do i have to go all the way there? People here are so used to having things done for them, they are too lazy to put a little effort and creativity into thier lives.
Times such as this i wish i was back in Perth, or somewhere in Europe. Just so i can get what i want when i want..i have so many ideas but without the right material i cant do much. (sorry if this post is turing out to be a rant, but i just cant help feeling this way)

I feel your pain with finding things here. I recently went to Europe and found the fabrics extremely expensive there (but I may have been going to the wrong places).
Wanna pool together and order some amy butler?
I think it’s just that people here aren’t much into diy. If it were the ‘rage,’ you’d surely find stuff! Unfortunately, my thing isn’t make-up, shoes (but I sure do love a good handbag, coach or dooney preferably), sparkly abayas, etc. Those, my dear, are readily available. :sigh:
Ladies are extremely talented here, but their interests are different, I guess?
(and sorry for my rant – I would love to be able to drive down to a craft store right about now and buy meters and meters of fabric, good zippers, funky buttons and rickrack).
Yarn. I need yarn too. What is this horrible stuff here? I find it extremely expensive because you need a whole bunch of skeins to make a afghan. And crochet / knitting needles. Big, chunky ones.
OOOH, and felt. I want cushy, bold, bright felt that’s sold by the sheet (looks like A4 paper).
Perhaps we should get together sometime and whine, whine, whine! HA HA
I would say Dubai is also not a good place to shop for sewing needs. They have only ordinary things that a tailoring shops need .
I know 2 shops in abudhabi where they stock some needlework , sewing supplies. One is ‘Green branch’ in Electra Road near KM trading. Other one is ‘Bastakia’ in Madinat Zayed. They have some of the stuff that we see online. Slightly expensive, but better than getting it online. I was a frequent visitor there when i used to stay in UAE. After i left UAE last year..didn’t get a chance to go till Abudhabi, eventhough we made many trips to Dubai. Green Branch is closed on fridays, so weekend trips are not good to visit that place.
Here i got some cotton yarns from Al Hadrami, Khamis plaza, Qurum. Once i got a packet of wool also…only i pack with 6 rolls, it is not enough for anything, but i took it.
I’m also hunting for big crochet needles here, when i asked they have not even seen this big ones before…I made a mistake of not taking all numbers that was available in a shop in Sharjah. You know the traffic in UAE, it is very difficult to go around and shop there other than in a mall. especially getting into sharjah is a nightmare.
I forgot to mention about a shop in Wafi mall, dubai.
AL washia, they used to stock up sewing things, 3 months back when i went there…only few shelfs of left over sewing things, when i asked them why it is like this, they said, no business for sewing things, so they are stopping to sell that. they are stocking up more of ladies stuff like jewellery etc. They also have a branch in mall of emirates, there they only used to stock up jewellery and other ladies stuff. They have a branch in Dubai city center also….i didn’t go there last time, so don’t know about it.
sorry for long comment……but a crafters pain….those who are not into these things will think we are mad.
Hi, Nima!
you mentioned about a shop in Sharjah selling various sizes of crochet needles, do you remember the name of the shop?
I used to go to the Green Branch in Abu Dhabi as well, but, unfortunately, they have a limited supply of needles.
Thanks in advance!
Ladies i love long comments, as this is our way of communicating so please dont stop the words
L_Oman did you say Amy Butler? you have just become my new best friend! I am up for it if you are
You are right there are lots of talented ladies but they are just into different things. I think this is where my french blood kicks in i love anything crafty. I come from a family of craftiness:) One of my aunts is a seamstress the other loves cross stitch, my grandmother knitted until she died, my mum does crochet, knits, cross stich, sews. So i was bound to catch up sooner or later…
Nima how disappointing i really thought that Dubai would at least have a proper craft/sewing supply store!
Al Washiya had outlet here in Muscat City Centre when it first opened but i rememeber going in there and it was more or less empty.
Let the others think we are mad lol we are who we and and enjoy what we do, that is if we could find a place to get what we need
I’ll make sure to see if Al washia here has anything crafty when i go to Muscat city center next time.
Nima i am sorry i must have not mentioned that they closed down
I guess they didnt get much business
